Siaya leaders on Sunday given a wide berth to Deputy President William Ruto’s tour in Bondo, Siaya County.
Ruto’s trip to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology the home turf of his political rival Cord principal Raila Odinga has raised eyebrows and did not augur well with the leaders, especially at a time when he is engaged in a war of words with Mr Odinga over corruption in the Jubilee Government.
Speaking at Bondo during a fundraiser for the Anglican Church, the Deputy President promised that the government will use Sh300 million in the expansion of the Bondo Technical Training Institute.
Ruto kept off politics during his speech in which he assured area residents that the government is committed to ensuring devolution succeeds.
Siaya County leaders are said to have boycotted the event except Bondo Mp Gideon Ochanda, Kisumu Central MP ken Obura and former Rarieda MP Raphael Tuju.
The Nyanza trip comes in the backdrop of claims and counter accusations between the two amidst Jubilee’s war on corruption, especially on the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) tender, Weston Hotel, and the National Youth Service saga.
