By Cyrus Ombati
NAIROBI, KENYA: A businesswoman who is a sister to Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire was shotdead and her son wounded in an attempted robbery on their home in Kahawa Sukari estate, Nairobi.
The victim identified as Eunice Muthoni Njeru was shot in the neck and killed on the spot in an ambush outside her gate on Tuesday.
Her son Kevin Muchangi is admitted in hospital with a bullet wound in the stomach.
The deceased’s sister Grace Mbarire said they are yet to know the motive of the attack.
Police and witnesses say the deceased had come to open the gate for her son on Monday night when a gang that had been waiting struck shooting both of them.
The gang of three had apparently been waiting for the arrival of Muchangi before they struck.
Nairobi Area police boss Benson Kibui said the gang shot at the two and escaped soon after the incident in a waiting car without stealing anything from them.
“We do not know the motive of the attack but it seems they were out to either kill or injure. They escaped in a car that was waiting nearby,” said Kibui.
Kibui said police are pursuing various leads into the attack but no arrest has been made so far.
