MUTHAURA’s ICC witness and PS THUITA MWANGI arrested for Tokyo Embassy SCAM

Wednesday, the 27th of February 2013 - Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi has this evening been arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for his alleged involvement in the acquisition of Kenya’s Embassy in Tokyo, Japan at an exorbitant price.

Confirming the PS’s arrest, EACC Vice-Chair Irene Keino said that investigations had been completed into the irregular acquisition of the Tokyo Embassy and that DPP Keriako Tobiko had approved the arrest of Thuita and other two suspects involved in the scam.

Keino said that Thuita would be arraigned in court tomorrow while the other two suspects, who include the Charge d’Affaires of the Tokyo Embassy Allen Mburu, would be presented in court in due course.

Thuita’s arrest is the first signal that EACC Chairman Halakhe Waqo - who was sworn into office in late January - is not afraid to go after the so called ‘big fish’.
