YES CRISIS

The tussle between PNU and ODM over the running of the Yes campaigns will be a key agenda of a joint parliamentary group meeting slated for Thursday.

Control of the campaign funds, leadership of the campaigns and the role of MPs are key issues at the Yes team secretariat which was launched two weeks ago by Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The meeting which was expected on Wednesday was re-scheduled to allow PNU secretary general Kiraitu Murungi, who jointly leads the political wing of the campaign with his ODM counterpart Anyang’ Nyong’o to attend.

Key matters

The co-leader of the secretariat, Prof Peter Kagwanja said they wanted Mr Murungi, the Energy minister to be present as key matters are resolved.

“We did not want to hold the meeting with Prof Nyong’o as the only leader. Kiraitu is arriving today from South Africa, so he will be there,” he said. Assistant minister Kabando wa Kabando said the meeting will be used to streamline the Yes campaign and agree on the series of rallies and in-house matters of the campaigns.

The parties held separate PG meetings on Tuesday where they came up with resolutions which will be discussed at the session to be co-chaired by Mr Murungi and Prof Nyong’o.
