Okwengu withdraws from Ringera case

Justice Hannah Okwengu has disqualified herself from hearing a case challenging the reappointment of Justice Aaron Ringera as the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission-KACC- director.

Justice Okwengu said she served under Ringera at the defunct Kenya Anti-corruption Authority - KACA.

She referred the file to Justice Hatari Waweru for further direction.

The civil society moved to court to challenge the unilateral reappointment of Justice Ringera and his two assistants Smokin Wanjala and Fatuma Sichale.

In the application the civil society argues that due process was not followed when the term of Justice Ringera was extended.

  1. A case filed by Ikolomani MP Bonny Khalwale challenging Justice Ringera's reappointment is being heard before Justice Hatari Waweru.

This comes in the wake of anticipated battle in parliament over a report on Ringera's reappointment by house committees on delegated legislation and administration of justice.

A section of MPs spent the better part of the morning in closed meetings strategizing on how to get the numbers to either block or support the Report.
